Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 green onions, finely chopped
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Teriyaki Glaze
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/4 cup water
Directions
- Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped green onions, teriyaki sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about 1/2 inch thick. - In a small saucepan, combine the teriyaki sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, cornstarch, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Place the turkey patties on the preheated grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). You have to cook ground turkey well done, unlike beef.
During the last 2 minutes of cooking, brush the patties with the teriyaki glaze, allowing it to caramelize and form a sticky coating. - While the turkey patties are cooking, grill the pineapple slices for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are lightly charred and caramelized.
- Place the toasted hamburger buns on a serving platter. Place a grilled turkey patty on the bottom half of each bun.
Top each patty with a grilled pineapple slice and any desired toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, or red onion.
Place the top half of the bun on top of the toppings to complete the burgers. You can get flagged toothpicks to hold the burger together if you want to get fancy.
